Rain Dog
Designed by Royal Lowell, this Downeast cruiser has had extensive upgrades between 2004 and 2006 and was then kept and cruised in the Thousand Islands from 2006 to 2009. Her semi displacement hull is efficient and seaworthy with a comfortable motion. Driven by the reliable Caterpiller 3208T engine, Rain Dog is very efficient: at 8knots/1200rpm she gets 3.5mpg, at 12knots/2400rpm she gets 1.71mpg and gets an additional knot of speed for every 200rpm. The accomodations are roomy and sensible, the helm deck/salon is large and light with easy engine room access through the sole. The large dinette converts to a double berth, and the V berth is very large with an extension cleverly added to the starboard side for additional length. The flybridge (with bimini) allows for a second helm station and comfortable sightseeing. The cockpit has a teak sole, and there is a beautifully finished dinghy mounted on the swim platform.
